Day 3: Young Life Club
JOURNAL ENTRY BY CHERIE DURST
Today followed the same schedule as yesterday. We arrived at the Young Life Clubhouse to find a group of young men playing soccer outside the compound and a group of men ready to start working on the gate and walls inside the compound.
The bonds we are making with the locals are starting to form. Erich was blessed to play soccer with the young men for a couple hours and was invited to play with them in their game this Saturday. Cherie spent an hour sharing her views on the Bible with a local who asked if she was a Christian. The children recognized us and loved playing games with the women in our group. They remembered how to play Duck Duck goose, limbo, hockey pokey and we added hot potato, which they loved saying hot hot hot.
The men in our group spent the day pouring concrete into frames to set overnight. The teens in our group had great conversations with the locals while they worked along side each other.
Everyone helped carry buckets of water to mix the concrete. The water from the well was dirty. As Jennifer carried her bucket and water splashed all over her shirt, she kept saying “please don’t get on my face, please don’t get on my face!” We all feel blessed to live where there is clean water.
Last night we gathered together and sang worship songs while Clint played the guitar. Then we discussed our day. We all agreed seeing the great joy the Arusha people have despite great adversity is a powerful testament to the greatness of our God.
