Day 8: Dingboche

Day 6 of EBC Trek

Daily Gratitude:

⁃ We are grateful we’re not attempting an Everest summit! This morning we did another acclimatization hike which meant we had the afternoon free in Dingboche. In the mountain towns along our trekking route, there are cafes that screen Himalayan-themed movies. We thought we were going to see a documentary called “Sherpa,” but instead they screened “Everest.” Lemme tell ya, this was not the move 😅 A few of us had to leave the movie early because it was hitting a bit too close to home, and we are so thankful we’re only going to Base Camp! But praise for the film: if you watch the first 10 minutes, you’ll see a lot of the places we’ve trekked through thus far!

Daily Highlights:

⁃ Ansley’s morning moon sighting (check out the pic!).

⁃ Symone’s mushroom quesadilla. The owner of the tea house where we’re staying said some trekkers from Mexico recently taught him how to make quesadillas and he added them to the menu. They only had cheese quesadillas on the menu, but Symone added mushrooms to hers today, and they may add it to the menu, too. Symone’s legacy will live on in Dingboche!

⁃ Great views from the hike we did this morning! More 360 degree panoramic views of the Himalayas.

Daily Reflections:

⁃ Tomorrow we trek to Lobuche and we’ll make our way to Everest Base Camp the next. I can’t believe we’re nearing the end of our EBC trek. As we reflect on how far we’ve come and think about our final few days of trekking, I pray we stay present in each moment, focusing on the here and now, and not the to-do lists that await us upon our return home. That said, we are looking forward to hugging the necks of loved ones in less than a week! We love and miss you all.
