Day 6: Arzua to Amenal

Amenal – 23km – Hotel Amenal

Visited the extraordinary chapel of Santa Irene- known for it’s unique statue of Santiago. En-route, explored the lovely hamlet of Rúa (310m). The rest of the route to Amenal is along a mix of good and calm country roads and forest tracks!

It was the best of times, it was the worst  of times.

The Worst first,Sore toes, dusty eyes and ears, bicycle close calls, pretty darned hot!

Ah, but the best of times….wonderful talks, thoughtful questions, unbelievable scenery, understanding the “thin moments” when you think….yeah…that was God.

Our thoughts today were focused on completion. Finish what you start. Survive everything you start but most of all enjoy the journey.

Our Camino Journey today was very long and hot but after the walks of the past week this journey became filled with thoughtful talks and laughs and jokes.  We had great food and peaceful meanderings.

I am reminded of a Book called, “The Things we Carried” by Tim O’Brien.  That was war but organization and a good back pack can go a long way.  Angst at the beginning of the Way has turned into “We got this”.   Life gets easier on the road if you know the Way!

We left Arzua and had a perfect walk with a cow parade complete with Border Collies.

We arrived in O Amenal - Hotel Amenal and there was a blessed bath tub!  Never mind that there was no hot water!

God is Good!

Thank you Steve and Manuel.
