Day 2: Cusco, Peru
Sleep In & Rest, Breakfast, Group Introductions & Trip Orientation, Lunch in Hotel, Walking Tour of Cusco after Lunch, Dinner in town at Cicciolina
Hola again from the heart of the Andes!
We kicked off the morning with a hearty breakfast (Hotel Monasterio’s fresh mango and those little pistachio pastries? Unreal). Afterwards — we had our official trip orientation meeting, where we discussed the amazing adventures that lie ahead, but this was also our first chance to really hear each other’s stories. What struck us most was the shared spirit of purpose. Many of us came for adventure, but learning about the incredible work Africa New Life is doing grounded this trip in something bigger. The funds raised for this journey are helping change lives. Hearing stories from members of the team who had actually been over in Rwanda and seen the impact of ANL first hand was humbling. That shared sense of purpose added weight (in the best way) to every step we took today.
Speaking of steps — we hit the streets of Cusco with our guide Hugo, who turned ancient stones into storytellers. From the grandeur of Qorikancha to winding alleys and beautiful cathedrals, we were immersed in the city’s Incan roots and colonial layers. The walking tour was capped off by getting to witness a celebratory parade for the anniversary of Cusco! What timing!! Thousands of people gathered in Plaza de Armas to witness celebratory dancing/marching bands and more. The Cusco version of the Macy’s Thanksgiving parade? Maybe... But even cooler
The day was capped off by an amazing dinner at Cicciolina an incredible Peruvian/Italian fusion restaurant. We keep thinking the meals cannot get any better, but somehow they do.
Okay, that’s all for now. Mary and Chandler signing off.
Goodnight darlings ;) (inside joke for our team)
