Day 2: Cusco

JOURNAL ENTRY BY TRISHA CRAFT
Last night was our first night in Cusco. The Belmond hotel Monasterio is magnificent! We awoke this morning and met for our community breakfast. Yet another feast. After last nights dinner and this morning’s breakfast and lunch, I don’t think I’m going to lose weight on this trip. On the contrary. After breakfast we took a short van ride to the market, “Mercado San Pedro”, to purchase food for our cooking class. I’m amazed at the many different types of fruit, I’ve never even heard of. Also the fact that here in Peru they have 50,000 different types of potatoes. Wow! We had many laughs during our cooking class and ate incredibly well, thanks to Yolanda and Franklin our chefs. Rawson, I believe, won the most humorous chef award! Rawson, Rhett and Crawford each took a challenge to take a bite of one of Peru’s hottest peppers. Needless to say their eyes were watering and their mouth’s were on fire. I’m sure there will be more challenges this week as we trek up this beautiful mountain in Peru. As for me (and Diane) we’re getting a massage this afternoon. Buenas Tardes!
