Day 7: Climb to Kosovo Camp
MOUNTAIN ROUTE OVERVIEW
As our climbers near the summit, they have another short day for acclimatization today. After breakfast, climbers leave Karanga Camp and make their way across moraine with a view of Mawenzi and Kibo to Barafu. The alpine desert terrain is full of boulders with lichen and moss. Upon reaching camp, climbers will spend the afternoon resting before packing for the summit and having an early dinner in preparation for their ascent to the summit to start at midnight. Summit begins at 5 PM EST!

UPDATE FROM THE TEAM
Hiked for 5 hours today, about 4 miles and 821 meters up. Endless stones, Pete and Michael tried outta number on them. Lunch at Barrafu “Snow”camp 15,300ft, was a feast with hot chips, tomato sauce, fried chicken, grilled cheese sandwiches, and watermelon. A mix of expectations, respect, anticipation for the last leg starting at 12am. Weather change’s temperature quickly between sun and cloud but has been very, very good. So thankful for this. Nearly everyone is challenged in some way, for me today it’s a headache. The group remains positive. Some more quiet hiking up today…
