Day 11-13: Safari
JOURNAL ENTRY
Over the past 48 hours seven of our crew took in the serene tranquility of the Serengeti. The 50,000 square miles of wilderness was simply amazing. From the moment we left the bush airstrip in our custom made for sightseeing Toyota Land Cruiser we were treated to the wonder of God’s beauty. In less than an hour we had seen giraffes, topis, zebras, antelopes, leopard turtles and elephants. One bull elephant in particular was within 30 steps of our open top truck. He was truly a sight to behold. Our guide Yusuf was an encyclopedia of information and helped us see almost every animal we desired. He was a delight. We travelled close to 100 miles two days in a row and only caught a brief glimpse of everything the park had to offer. Over the two days we additionally got to see cheetahs, lions, leopards, cape buffalo, hippos, crocodiles, mongooses, baboons, warthogs, hornbills and ostriches along so many other birds and mammals. We enjoyed magnificent meals and comfy beds back at our safari lodge at the end of each day. Today is travel day for the last of us as we each head back to Arusha and then the U.S. While we are sad to say goodbye, this safari was a perfect end to an amazing experience here in Tanzania.
