Day 2: Meet with mountain guides and check gear
Blog Entry Day #2 - Pete Hiskey
It’s Sunday night and we’ve just wrapped up our pre-hike team dinner here at beautiful Mount Meru hotel. Each person shared why they are doing the climb and how they ended up at the table. This dinner and sharing set us all up for a special and memorable hike.
We talked a lot about taking one day at a time and not getting ahead of ourselves or overwhelmed.
This group has had so many delays and hurdles to get over just to get to the starting line tomorrow-flight delays, Covid test, Covid test, Covid test, finding misplaced stuff…must be that something good is on the way!
I’m sure he will share more later this week, but one of the guys who spent almost two days to get here luggage did not arrive in time. This is a big deal. Hope he will share more about this later with everyone pitching in and having just enough socks, shoes, jackets, hats, bags, bags, snacks in his size to be able to go for it in the morning.
I for one am so excited to begin this “ascent” tomorrow morning. To come alongside each new (and old) friend and really see what the God of all Creation has for each of us. What He wants to say.
May we have ears to hear and eyes to see!
On a lighter note, One fun highlight for me and Michael today was when we arrived at the hotel, after 40 hours since we left (and only one connection) and we looked from our room at the pool below. Fifteen minutes later the only word that can capture the feeling was invigoration. I mean, it felt so great, but it was soooo cold!
Signing off before I pass out! Night night my friends, team and family-Pete
