DAY 1: THE JOURNEY BEGINS TO TANZANIA

Today marks the beginning of an incredible journey! Everyone has arrived safely at Mount Meru Hotel in Arusha, Tanzania. Similar to Mount Kilimanjaro, which comprises of three volcano cones, Mount Meru is also a dormant volcano and stands at 14,968 ft. Let’s hope our climbers have good weather on Mount Kilimanjaro because on a clear day, you can see Mount Meru from Mount Kilimanjaro which is 43 miles west! Keep an eye on this trip journal! We’ll be posting everyday from now until the end of the trip!

Wahoo! We made it! Well, 5 of the 8! (See you soon Montagues!)

While I can’t speak for Adam and Josh, Whitney, Emily, Jordan and I had a wild time getting to Arusha.

We started with a 15-hour flight to Doha. Then spent a hilarious 10 hours sipping delicious coffee, walking through high-end stores, sleeping in a quiet room with strangers and enjoying the forest all while being inside an airport in Quatar. The next 6-hour flight felt easy compared to the first and we landed in Dar Es Salaam for a pitstop before making it to Kilimanjaro!

This trip has been in the back of our minds for almost a year, like a faint dream that you forgot was really going to be reality. It’s taken a little mental prep, an excel sheet of packing lists, and many hopes and prayers that our bodies would be healthy by the time the flight took off! So cheers to this trip, to the people we get to befriend and learn from, and to the hours of just putting one foot in front of the other.

We cannot wait to share more with you all!
