Day 4: Namche
Hiking time: 5-6 hours
Difficulty Level: Moderate
We’ll follow the Dudh Kosi, ascending 2,300 ft./700 m through Himalayan pine and Doedar cedar forests, to the celebrated village of Namche Bazaar (11,300ft./3,444 m). The village of Namche is an historic trading post where Nepalese and Tibetan traders exchange salt, dried meat, gold and textiles. Besides being a superb place to shop for traditional crafts, Namche remains the central trading post in the Khumbu, attracting Himalayan and lowland merchants. Our group will spend two days in Namche, affording us the opportunity to acclimate, visit local markets and spend time with friends in town. On the hike, we’ll capture our first glimpses of Everest and neighboring peaks.
Day 2 of EBC Trek
Daily Gratitude:
We are grateful for hot showers today! We made it to Namche, an unexpectedly vibrant mountain town along the EBC trekking route. Our crew was quite sweaty after hiking uphill today and crossing the Hillary Bridge (highest suspension bridge along the EBC route) — Mary, our trip host, was sweaty from the nerves of the group trying to convince her and Lalit, our guide, to bungee jump off the bridge. Thankfully, she convinced everyone to let her do it on the way back 😉 (Saved by the bell…we won’t trek back as we’ll fly back to Kathmandu via heli!)
Daily Highlights:
⁃ Mike joined a dance circle started by a trekking guide playing the Nepalese version of a mandolin.
⁃ Simone keeps on sharing her wellness tips + tricks with the whole crew! Don’t sleep on Fenugreek tea, y’all!
⁃ Ansley & Karen tackled the uphill like it was a downhill!
Daily Reflections:
Tonight at dinner we shared who the most influential person in our lives is/has been. It was amazing to hear the legacies imprinted on us by grandparents, business coaches, etc. I know this EBC trek and experience of Nepal will also leave a lasting impression on our lives. For that, we are thankful!
