Day 2: Kathmandu, Nepal
Final rest day before the beginning of the trek! Our climbers will explore Kathmandu and spend some time having their gear check and prepping for an early wake up call before their private helicopter ride. Follow along for trek updates as they go!
Day 2: Exploring Kathmandu
Daily Gratitude:
Today, gratitude abounds for the opportunity to explore a new city full of vibrant people, a variety of religious traditions, and numerous UNESCO World Heritage sites. We toured 3 today alone! Our hearts were full from our welcome dinner last night where we shared what drew us to this trip, the origins of our love for adventure/travel/wild places, and a reading from George Mallory reminding us that “what we get from this adventure is just sheer joy.” Sheer joy, and maybe some Type 2 fun along the way.
Daily Highlights:
We toured the famous “monkey temple,” which boasts incredible views of the Kathmandu valley from the stupa as well as a Hindu temple, Buddhist monastery, art gallery (mandalas painted by local monks were a highlight), and crematorium. Babu, our tour guide, was a wealth of knowledge! It was a great day of touring Kathmandu.
Reflections:
Here are some reflections from our a few of our trip members today:
Cherishing the opportunity to learn from a local (shoutout to Babu, our knowledgeable guide!).
Highlight = getting to know each other better over kickoff dinner + waking up on the other side of world.
Simply being here — taking in the sights, sounds, and smells of Kathmandu. All while experiencing numerous religious traditions existing in harmony in one city.
Tomorrow morning we fly to Lukla to start our trek to Everest Base Camp! We can’t wait to get into the mountains. The Himalayas are calling.
