Day 9: Dingboche
Rest Day for Climbers
—
Update from Team:
There is no better phrase for today than “child-like joy!” One thing to note is that the walls in the tea houses are very, very thin, so the day started in unison around 6:30 AM with each room exclaiming “oh my gosh!” as curtains we pulled back to reveal perfect blue morning skies and some of the tallest mountains in the world right outside. Proceeding the running to each other’s rooms to make no one missed it, and the running straight outside in full giddy like kids waking their parents up when the first snow falls that season. The joy, giddiness, and big smiles continued … our first blue bird day!! We’ve been praying for this the past 5 days of cloud coverage and boy, what a beauty we were given. The second sentence in our group deco this morning wrote, “Let the radiance of My Glory shine upon you , as you wait on me in confident trust.” Which felt like perfect timing for a great word as we continue to wait and to trust God’s provision to display His glory before as we get closer to Base Camp. A word both fitting for both the life before us here in Nepal and back home.
Today was an acclimation hike day in Dingboche and the crew took it in very well. We started at 14,468 ft and hiked up to about 15,456 ft which will help our bodies acclimate to the our arrival in Lobuche at just over 16,000 ft. The air is definitely cold and thin, there are more sniffles coming from our noses, but we’re hopeful and confident to reach each destination together and in good health these last three days on the trail. After the day hike we’ve had the afternoon in Dingboche to rest, read, journal, and get ready for three really big days ahead of us!
