Day 5 - Melide to Arzua
Itinerary
Walk to Arzua – 14 km [9 Miles]
Camino trail continues downhill, passing the village of Casanova and the delightful village of Leboreiro. The Camino brings you to the village of Boente and the church of Santiago. Next is the pretty medieval hamlet of Ribadiso and finally the town of Arzúa (389m), famous for its local cheese. In Arzúa, you should visit the churches of Santa María and A Magdalena.

When I describe our day it’s going to sound like we are on a luxury cruise. I promise that the entire week has not been this way, but today was pretty lavish.
Steve gave us a beautiful devotional about finding “thin places” in life, where the space between heaven and Earth feels very thin.
We started in Melide and made our way up and down quite a few hills. We stopped for coffee after 7 kilometers (I only speak in the metric system now) and stopped again 4km later for really good smoothies.
We stopped again to put our foot in the Rio Iso, which is a tradition for pilgrims. The cold, cold water made our feet feel amazing for the next 20 minutes or so on the Camino.
We arrived in Arzua around 1:15 and had an excellent lunch at Casa Nene. We took a cab to our accommodations for the night, which is a 300-year old estate with incredible views. We each got massages on site, sat by the pool and rested our legs before dinner at 8.
And I didn’t even mention the fresh-squeezed orange juice that was on tap at breakfast!
This trip is going by too fast. Tomorrow is a big day: 16 miles (25km) to cover and it’s going to be very hot: 33 degrees Celsius. (I only speak in Celsius now too).
I’m personally looking forward to watching Spain’s World Cup match with Javier tomorrow at 6pm local time. He’s loves Espana and knows a ton about football, so it should be special to watch a Spain game in Spain with a Spaniard.
Buen Camino, Josh
