Gabriel Nkini
Gabriel has worked with BEYOND for over 15 years. Becoming a mountain guide not only transformed his and his family's life but also the lives of people in his village – many of them are guides in training, porters, and cooks on his expeditions. He has trekked every route on Mount Kilimanjaro and has summited the mountain over 300 times – during which he became an expert in the flora and fauna of the mountain. Gabriel is married with children.
John Simon
John Simon dreamed of working on Mount Kilimanjaro. When he asked a guide that he knew for a job as a porter, he was told that he was too weak. So, he started training until he was strong enough. A few years later, he befriended a climber that saw potential in him and paid his way through guide school. He's been leading people to the Roof of Africa ever since. He’s married with children.
Samia Asindamu
Samia has been guiding on Kilimanjaro for over 25 years. He holds the world record for fastest ascent of the Western Breach – the most technical and most dangerous route on Kilimanjaro. He’s known for his warmth, thoughtfulness, and first aid skills. He is often toward the back of our groups making sure that every trekker is safe while in deep conversation with them. He’s married with children.
